Sound on DVD playback

Most DVDs play fine on both my windows media player, and Nero on my 8300 with audilgy soundcard.

I have one or two dvds however, including "LOST" series 4 I just tried to play, where the adverts and bonus features play both sound and vision, but where in Windows media player, the main programme, episode, plays vision, but I no longer get any sound.

The same DVDs that I have this trouble in media player, do play sound in Nero, but the image turns to coloured blocks.

 

Any idea what causes this and a way around please?

    It almost sounds like they were encoded using a different, possibly not quite compatible, version of a codec you have installed.  Do the problem disks play fine in a standard DVD player (for a TV)?

    I have downloaded the latest version of Power DVD and "Lost" plays ok with it.

    Guess Windows media player could read the vision but not sound, and the other way around for Nero, but, as advertised, Power DVD reads both.
