The task may need administrator privileges to complete. Maybe look in that direction and I will too.

Open the task properties and check that "
Run With Highest Privileges " is checked. Also check through the various other tabs and see if there may be something else stopping the execution.
I am completely unable to use the 'Send an email' functionality in Task Scheduler ( and yet I have at least three other programs that send similar automated email notifications without a problem.
As a workaround, I did the following:
1) created a one line batch file, using the free command line SendEmail utility
2) used Task Scheduler to 'Start a program' to auto schedule the batch file
Works like a charm.
And yet if I use the exact same email parameters in Task Scheduler ( ie to, from, smtp etc), it wont work.
So I can automate tasks via Task Scheduler, and I can automate email notfications outside of Task Scheduler, but I cannot use the email functionality within Task Scheduler.
Have others , using Vista, successufully used the 'Send an email' functionality in Task Scheduler??
