My Temp Folder contains files with such extensions as .log  .dat  .xml  .shd, also folders called Application.   Can all these be considered Temporary Files, just because they are in the Temp Folder, and be deleted?

The Folder actually contains very few  .tmp  files.  It seems to eliminate those automatically, as it's supposed to do.  But those with other extensions are never eliminated.  And it's growing.

 

I have tried to open a number of them, and been able to discard a few that belonged to programs I don't even have any more.  With others I could not understand what they are.  Some will not open, no matter what I try, the .xml files are among those, and there are a lot of them.  Others have installation components for installed apps, that look like the real thing, not just temps.  And some of the logs seem to be updated all the time.

 

I would like to delete as many as may be safe and would appreciate any advice.
