Hi, I have an Inspiron 1521 with vista installed. I have so much trouble with it I wondered if it is possible to reinstall XP. I tried it already with a Reinstallation CD from my other Dell desktop but it won't let me do it saying I already have a more recent OS. Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you in advance.
I don't think a recovery disk for another DELL product will work. It might, but you will have to completely wipe (format) Vista off your hard drive before you could install XP. I would reinstall Vista from your recovery partition and try Vista again.
Hi, Thank you for your suggestion. Do you mean uninstall Vista? I could not find any place to do this as there was no place in programs to uninstall Vista? Thanks.
Since Vista is the Operating System, you cannot uninstall it like you would a program you no longer need. You should have some options when you first start your computer prompting you to press a certain key (for example, F12) to enter into recovery options. All the files you need to reinstall Vista are 'hidden' there.
I have long since done away with that hidden partition (my laptop came with XP, but I now use Vista) that I cannot be more specific in helping you.
Do you have any discs (CDs) that came with your Dell?
