Wallpaper

I hope this is the right forum to ask this question! I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Home Edition. It has the usual graphic stuff that Dell packages with that computer.
In the past I have downloaded pictures to my computer and then the picture title would be available to use as my wallpaper. I tried it a few weeks ago and the pictures would be fuzzy and kind of digital squares showing. So then I thought I would just find a picture and have it set as wallpaper. Those are the same way. Someone suggested that the pictures I have chosen don't have enough pixels. I chose one where the size was like 1028 pixels x 1268 pixels. That was a little better but still not clear. Is this maybe a setting on my computer that got changed incidentally? Any help would be appreciated. Everything else looks fine on my computer.

    Give this a try:

Right-click on the background screen and go into the Arrange Icons By> then uncheck Lock Web Items on Desktop.

I did this - it was not checked. Thanks though, any other ideas?

Not sure what all you've already done there but only things I can think of would be the screen resolution (esp. if using LCD monitor) and "Stretch" in the Desktop part of Display properties.
Choosing "Center" or "Tile" is the only way to avoid image distortion, I'm thinking you probably looked into that possibility. However, the monitor needs to be set to its 'native' resolution, too, if an LCD type.

I figured locked web items might have been the only thing overlooked. And, even if it were unchecked I think I'd go ahead and do a check then uncheck to be sure it isn't causing a problem. Of course, maybe you've done that by now.

That's all I can think of.

Um, no, it isn't. Maybe you haven't looked at the color depth yet? In Display (right-click desktop background then left-click Properties) and the Settings section. Be sure color is set to 24 bit or higher.

Thanks, I do find that if I use center or tile the image is not distorted - only when I stretch it - which is only way I want it. Incidentally, a couple pictures I had put in previously stretch with no problem. Just ones I try to download now. I am going to try to find out how to set my monitor to it's 'native' resolution as it is an Dell LCD monitor. My color is set to 32 bit. Thanks!
