XPS 8930, possible GPU failure?
Good evening everyone,
I have a Dell XPS 8930 that shows only a black screen when I turn it on. (Forgive me for not being very technical.) I have searched forums and have done a few troubleshooting steps including Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B, without any effect. I connected a television as a monitor and got the response "no signal.: When I disconnected the original monitor, I got a message on the monitor that the monitor would shut down in 5 minutes. The keyboard lights would change status when I keyed the Num Lock and Caps Lock key. I used another computer on the same wifi to access the router and saw the XPS 8930 connected to the internet. I had noticed that the computer got loud over the last few months. My spouse confirmed that when he was editing photos that he noticed that there was a loud fan noise frequently lately. Does this sound like a GPU that has gone bad? If so, is there a GPU that I can buy and install that will fix this problem? I read in these forums that if a GPU is not OEM that it might not work unless something is overridden. Since I don't have a display, I won't be able to change settings. Many thanks in advance to the gurus on this forum.
