So recently, two months ago, I got an Alienware m17 R2 laptop and it was completely fine. However recently it seems that the bottom left corner of my Touchpad has broken somehow. Firstly, it seems to rest a lot lower down than the bottom right hand corner which is basically flush with the palm rest. However, more importantly it doesn't click when it is pressed. There is no actually physical click happening nor does it register that a click is happening.
While I don't know if this is normal or not it is quite an annoying thing to have for the amount of money i spent on this laptop. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced such issues and would be able to give me some advice on how to go about getting it fixed or something like that.
If that is your criterion for a future purchase, you will be very limited in choices - just about all notebooks use the same type of battery now. And they all pose a risk of swelling when the battery reaches end of life.
First thing to check for is a swollen battery -- if the battery starts swelling, it can cause an initially uneven touchpad.
If the battery is swollen, remove and dispose of it immediately, and then replace it.
If the battery is OK, most likely the touchpad itself needs to be replaced. This is often integral to the palmrest assembly - try parts-people.com for a parts source if you're US-based.
The mousepad is held in by 4 Philips head screws if you get the mousepad replacement.

Quick Tip: If your laptop has voltage / charging issues, try shutting it down, unplugging power from laptop, hold power button down for 30 seconds to do a full reset!
Yup - the battery pack swelled and now I cannot use the touchpad - left side will not click at all. I've had the laptop for about 16 months . Poor design and/or poor choice of battery. Really disappointed with Dell. i would not purchase another Alienware in the future.
I could’ve written what you wrote as your issue. To add to That it failed within a few months. What is crazy is I rarely use it. I almost always use a mouse so it’s not even been touched that much that doesn’t leave me with any hope that its not going to fail once it’s replaced. honestly, this has been the worst and the most expensive laptop I’ve ever owned. By the way, it’s the second one since the first one went through five service visits and still was not fixable. Second one has very similar issues, but they claim there is no known issue! <Profanity is never needed nor allowed on our Forum. DELL-Admin>
and it’s not a lot of fun to have to go through service call. They give you a window of 9 AM to 6 PM like none of us have jobs.
