Hello to everybody...

I have a brand new PS4100x and i must say i am not pleased with its performance...

The Specs are :

PS4100x ISCSI ,2x1GB

24 HDDs RAID 50 (was before RAID 6) (22+2spares) 300GB 10k

connected to 2 PowerConnect 6224 stacked

The main testing is done on a PowerEdge T410 2k8R2 ,8GB ,2xE5620 with 2x Broadcom BCM5709C Dedicated to ISCSI and a single Network Connection with a BCM5716c (i know i have a second but for the time being it is not used).

Well the performance....whatever we have tried i don't get the performance i think i should have...and please take a few moments to read my thinkings and measurements

With the HDTune....i have NEVER got faster than 52Mb/s ...i know it is ISCSI,i know it has the limitation of around 200Mb/s due to 2x1 Gigabit connection...but given the fact it is a setup of 22 disks i am expecting to at least see a solid 200Mb/s on all cases...

HDTune gets much worse because even this 55Mb/s is not solid and it goes up and down all the time ranging from 0.8 Mb.s (you are reading right it is 0.8Mb/s) to max of 55Mb/s

With CrystalDiskMark i get better results on Sequential Reads around 150+Mb/s but when it comes to 4K Reads it gets on the floors measuring around 0.8 to 0.9 Mb/s....compared to the internal Disks (2 Disk on RAID 1 for OS and backups) i get 1.3Mb/s...Thankfully i get better performance on Writes (?) for 4K at around 5mb/s and then on 4K QD32 i get around 5x times the performance of the internal Disks....

On daily use i see at its best i get the performance of my OLD Sql server which it has 6 Hdss on Raid 10....i am talking about a PE 2900

So i ask myself  is it normal that a shiny new EQ with 22 Disks:

•  to have inferior performance on HDTune compared to 1 single HDD (even an IDE HDD from last decade is much faster and is SOLID at 50+Mb/s)
• to have inferior performance on CrystalDiskMark compared to a single RAID1 setup on 4K reads
• to measure the same or worse time to fetch the records from a SQL query
• to take around 50+% time to get a copy of a folder around 5.25Gb with 98 files compared to when it is "hosted" on 4 internal HDDs set to RAID5
• to have almost the same performance on HDTune even if it is connected to a single NIC (another server PE T110) without MPIO or anything fancy...i am not even sure if it has Jumbo Frames because i cannot find a setting for this

Maybe i want more than a SAN can provide...maybe it is fine and i must live with this performance along with everyone in my company who hoped some performance boost and blame the OLD trusty SQL server....

I would like to have some feedback...and it would be GREAT if someone has the same setup (24disks 300GB,10K,2x1Gb) to compare results on HDD benchmarks
