File System Explorer access - OneFS 7.2.1.1
I am a new Isilon admin and from reading the documentation, the only way to create a folder for an SMB share or NFS export is to log in as the root user:
"The File System Explorer is available only if you are logged in through the root user account."
Would anyone be able to offer some insight into why it is designed this way? I log on with my Active Directory Domain account to do most of the other administration tasks except creating a folder. I'm sure there is a reason it is set up this way but it seems kinda silly to have to log out from my regular account and log in as root just to create a folder to share.
What am I missing here?

I've always thought this was silly, myself, but I never use File System Explorer to create directories (rarely use it at all now). I typically create directories either through a non-root squashed Linux server dedicated to the task, or by sshing into the cluster as root (which I suspect kind of defeats the purpose...
). I know others use domain admin accounts if they're running a more Windows centric environment and create it within Windows.
File System Explorer is extraordinarily slow when you get a reasonable number of directories on the thing.
