Go to SolutionDell update utility installed wrong bios on Latitude E5450
I have a Dell Latitude E5450 laptop with the docking port on it.
after an automated update through the dell update utility i found out the the usb3 ports at the back- wifi and 4g wwan cards are not detected anymore and the screen goes blank after a few seconds after boot
i found out the the bios for 5450 the version without the docking port was installed but i can not revert to the correct bios since when i try to manually update the bios i get a wrong hw id error message
any ideas?

Same problem. I got it to boot back up but now it wont take the correct BIOS. This is probably going to be a call to dell

even the bios update through the bios update feature detects the wrong system id...
rhe automated (?) support of this community forum replied to me that the laptop is out of warranty and i should seek support from a community member!!!!!!!

Have you tried to install the correct BIOS using this method???
Create a new folder on a desktop named “BIOS Update”
Then download your BIOS update.
Dell Latitude E5450 System BIOS:
Copy the update to that folder you just created.
Then create a bootable USB drive using “Rufus”
Copy the BIOS update to the bootable USB drive you just created..
Insert USB drive, power-on and start tapping the “ F12 “ key.
Boot from USB and run the BIOS update.
After reboot test and post any results.

Was there are an option to choose the BIOS to install???
Do you know which one you installed???
There are 2:
1. E5450A23.exe
File Size:8.62 MB
2. 5450A23.exe
File Size:8.6 MB
I am not sure if they are interchangeable or not???

i assume that it managed to instal 5450A23 as this is now indicated as installed on the bios update utility
regardless of what i try there is no way to manually revert to the E version
according to the dell drivers update site i should only be able to use the E version as my laptop has the docking socket

i'm not allowed to revert to any E bios version (i've even tried A02 without any luck)

I have a similar problem with two E6420 XFR's!!!
Someone upgraded the BIOS to the E6420.
The 2 XFR's should be touchscreen but the E6420 BIOS completly disabled the touchscreen.
I was successful in installing the correct BIOS but it did not change the problem.

If I remember correctly the touchscreen on the XFR uses the USB bus???
My area is not on lock down "YET" so if I have time tomorrow I will look into this further.

Same thing happened to me 2 days ago. After trying maaany different things I finally found a solution some minutes ago!
Initial situation: Command Update installed BIOS 5450A23 on my E5450.... (no words) Only external HDMI, USB port on the right side of the device are working. No more WIFI, Bluetooth blablabla. Every try to install BIOS version E5450A23 ends in an error. Even with /s /f /forceit. Using Windows 10 cmd, FreeDOS, F12 on boot - doesn't matter. Always the same error that it's the wrong BIOS version and can't be installed.
Solution (short):
1) Go from 5450A23 back to 5450A20 (I used Win10 cmd as admin here with switches /f /s /r /forceit. This way system reboots on itself)
2) Go from 5450A20 to E5450A23 (same procedure as in step 1)
3) Tadaaaa! System works like a charm again. Hope it works as well for you!
