CAUTION - McAfee 4.03 download problem !
Downloaded the upgrad scan engine file "Upgrade 403.exe" from McAfee. Followed Install Wizard instructions to the letter. On the reboot, the following error message appeared.
"Invalid VxD dynamic link call from VShield(01) + 00002AAB to device "3541", service 8016. Your windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup program again to correct this problem."
Was given the choice to continue (not recommended) or to enter "N". Entered "N"; screen went blank; and system froze up.
Since I wanted to avoid the agony of reinstalling windows, I went to safe mode; deinstalled McAfee Virus Scan 4.03; and rebooted. The system rebooted just fine. Then reinstalled my original Virus Scan 4.02; rebooted again; and sytem came up again without any problem.
Does anyone know what happen here or how I can get the updated scan engine without repeating the above conflict?
