Display brightness

I have an Inspiron 6000 and want to adjust screen brghtness. Ive clicked on properties and gone in to settings but every time I turn it back on I have to manually adjust brightness. Please can someone help me and tell me how I can set the brightness and save the setting!!!

    Click Dell QuickSet icon on task bar. Click on Adjust Power management. Click forwards three times to Selecting a Power Scheme.
     
    Click on Add Scheme. Set Display Brightness on Running on Batteries to maximum. Give this scheme a name (like My Own Scheme). Click on Save and click forward to Finish.
     
    It works on my 8600.

    Press the Function key (FN) and the up/down arrow keys with the brightness symbols on the bottom right.

    Hi there

    this behaviour can be noticed on systems running on battery power. what usually happens is that a laptop tries to save power when it is running on battery and you would have noticed that the system screeen automatically brightens when the ac adapter is plugged in.

    you can change the settings in the Quickset utilty as mentioned in the earlier message or try to save it in the system setup (or BIOS).

    1) press F2 when the system is starting up initially, when you see the Dell logo on the screen.

    2) under the system setup, go to Video -->Brightness. Press enter and increase the brightness to your desired level.

    PS: This will consume a lot of battery power and so you would notice that the battery is draining quickly

    Lou 182 had no trouble adjusting the display brightness on his notebook, but could not save the new settings so that they were conserved following a reboot. After installing a new hard drive, I was recently in the same position.
     
    I did not expect that using Fn-up/down arrows to adjust the brightness would save my settings after rebooting, since it did not appear to offer an option to do so.
     
    I was, however, surprised that brightness adjustment in the BIOS did not keep my adjusted settings following a reboot, since I exited the BIOS (and I did this several times) with Save and Exit.
     
     In the end only creating a new power scheme in Dell QuickSet enabled me to preserve my ideal settings after turning off the notebook.
     
    Can anyone tell us if brightness settings established with Fn/arrows can be saved?
     
    Of greater interest, can anyone suggest why Save and Exit in BIOS does not seem to work for me with brightness, when it  works without problem for my other BIOS settings?
