s-video help
Hello all,
I wouod very much like to connect my laptop to my tv screen so that I can watch vides, play games, etc. Here is what I know at this point. I have a Dell E1505, Radeon video card, s-video cable with a 7 pin to my laptop and 4 pin to my tv. From there I need help. I ahve been in control panel, settings and all that. Here is what I see so far that I can remember. I do see the #1 and #2 screens on the laptop screen in the settings. When I pull down the dsplay pull down I see a 1 and 2 listing of exactly the same thing. I have hit the fn f8 key as well. When I do that my laptop screen goes black until I hit it again. I cannot get a picture on my tv at all. It is a regular old cable tv hooked up to a cable box and dvd player. I know the stuff I have written is somehwat vague at this point but I would so dearly love to make this happen. If any of you would be willing to help it would be so much appreciated. Thanks for the advice. I never knew how to use Catalyst. I did everything you said but still no image on the tv. Catalyst sees the tv but does not enable it. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 video card. I believe it is 128mb. The two other connections on the s-video cord are red and yellow. What should I make sure they are plugged into on the tv? Also my tv is hooked up to a cbale tv box and a dvd player. Would this make any difference? Is there some switch or button I need to hit? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

ah ok. well, let's ask a few questions then :smileywink:
First, I have to tell you that when I want to hookup my laptop to my TV, I have to unplug the dvd player from my TV (I have an old tv)..., so maybe you would have to do the same. This is because I use the yellow composite plug and my dvd also uses this connection.
1. does your TV have a real s-video input? s-video: the 4-pin cable connector
2. if your tv doesn't have a real s-video input, you must use the yellow composite video plug on your cable. The red and white is for the sound (but leave that alone for now)
3. does Catalyst raise an error when you try to enable the TV?
4. when everything is connected and you enabled your tv in catalyst, make sure you select the correct input channel on your TV (normally the input selector button on the remote control is a picture of a screen with an arrow coming from the left)

Hi Iceman,
here's your solution.
1. hook up your cables from laptop to TV.
2. go to display properties --> settings --> advanced
3. select the CATALYST control center tab and open CATALYST control center
4. it should detect your TV as "Attached displays currently disabled".
5. Right-click the TV icon and select "clone main with TV".
