Universal Serial Bus Controller driver problem

In device manager my USB controller has the dreaded yellow question mark!  I've reinstalled the chipset drivers like 10 times both from the dell website and the CD.  It's still not working...  I've heard I need to install the Chipset drivers before anything else.  but... it's too late for that.  and then why isn't there some big neon sign warning you of that?  please help!  i can't plug ANYTHING in to my computer!

could go in device manager and delete the usb stuff and let windows find it again on reboot.

Ya it worked before-but the last time i reformatted i remember having this problem but i cant remember how i fixed it.. it's been to long and i know it wasn't this hard last time!

i tried that... no luck,  i also tried uninstalling and deleting all driver info for ALL the drivers i installed when i reformatted.  then i rebooted and reinstalled them all doing the chip set first-no luck... still trying to reinstall sp2... this is rediculous

it might not hurt to format and start over and painful as it will be. you could run diagnostics first to see if that the usb ports are ok.
