data transfer from old computer(me) to new one(xp) using ethernet crossover wire
I need help transferring data from my old computer(me) to my new computer(xp) using an ethernet crossover wire. I have spent several hours trying to do this with no success. I tried following the wizard,but that didn't work. They will not communicate. I need help please!!! I need to transfer those files!!! Thanks to all in advance!!!

Since you don't say which version(s) of Windows are involved or exactly what problems you are having, it is difficult to give detailed help. Try following the tutorials at http://www.homenethelp.com Using the wizards, if you answer one question wrong, then it will mess up the network. The tutorials should help guide you through the manual setup. Since you are not connected to a dhcp server, you will need to specify the IP addresses of each computer. You should use 192.168.1.1 for one of the computers and 192.168.1.2 for the other one. Both should have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
