DSL & caller id waiting
Hi- I have 2 Dells- the one at home uses the modem on hold (dial up-people pc)
I have caller Id Call waiting on the 2nd & 1st pc
-On my 2nd pc I used to use dial up but i had the 'catch a call' box installed. I took out the box. GOt DSL. Now, when a call comes in on this 2nd pc, it shows on my fax phone display either "caller-id error" or "no service" . I called qwest and they verified lines were good. The technician had filtered everything from the main box outside(so he said) so I dont need those little filters. Qwest told me to contact DELL>i havent ...yet.
I went in the modem area in the 'control panel' & in the modem on hold section, the box enable modem on hold was not checked. so I checked it (to enable) to see that did anything. called phone # still did not display. so, i went back to uncheck that box.
let me add that I have only one line at the 2nd pc. i had even connected a caller id box in a seperate jack. and although the connection said OK on the CID box, when i called the number, it would ring twice. only. If I answered the phone, the call would terminate right away.
As far as my pc @ home, I have a CID box connected to a separate jack. when call comes in, the display on my pc shows whos calling. BUT also, my CID box makes a click noise. and shows the call that is trying to come in. SO all is good @ home.
*my only gripe is that when I answer the call, my caller can barely hear me and I can barely hear him. only until I disconnect the internet connection, are we able to hear each other just fine.
Both Pc's are/have same=WIndows XP HOME-OEM-sp2-dell 2300 dimension. BVRP utilities installed.
WHat can I try (providing that all qwest connections are good & correct)- thanks for your help
