I use a Dimension 3000 desktop. I cannot dial in to my ISP (Juno). Each time I try, it responds "can't dial in". I checked the connection, that's ok. I checked the phone line and that's ok. A box pops up that says "system service not working go to Help & Support" When I try to go to Help & Support, a box pops up "system service not working".
This all began after I used an AVG PC Tuneup. Since then the bottom line colors changed. For example, where START was green with white letters and the windows colors symbol; it is now WHITE with Black letters only. Where bottom line across was blue, now it too is WHITE.
I can pull up WORD, Games, etc. but am unable to dial in to get to internet. Can someone please respond?
I believe the Tuneup application you have used must have shutdown a few services. Have you tried restarting the system ? This should restore the services back up.
After following Telson's instructions, if you still have problems, try doing a System Restore.
AVG's PC analyzer feature includes a registry cleaner. I am not too keen on "tune-up" or "fix-it" apps especially those that include registry cleaners. If you lack the skills to clean manually, you have no business relying on an automated process to do it. I don't support the use of so called "registry cleaners" because they can aggravate a situation and take steps we are many times not manually aware of.
It is better not to resort to such programs if you don't know what is happening with the proposed fix and the registry. Otherwise, a change to the registry can make a system unbootable by one mistake.
