Wireless adapter

I need a wireless adapter for my Insipron 600m that has 13 channels so I can use it in europe. Most brands such as Linksys list in their specs that it is 11 for USA. What brands can I  buy in the US that will have the 13 channel capability. Radio shack has been no help they are clueless as to the number of channels.

bacillus is right here. the cards and routers (or rather the chipsets in them) are usually universally capable of hitting those higher channels. locks are usually in drivers or firmware.

see if you can find drivers for a specific country (perhaps at an internation site of the card maker) or a generic driver for the card's chipset.

realtek chipsets (if I recall correctly) will let you set the region if you use the generic drivers from the realtek website.

dell true mobile cards (broadcom chipset) will let you as well -- you just need to download the appropriate driver package.

I could be wrong here but depending on the make of wireless card you use, it may all lie in the driver you use.

I recall on my old netgear 511T, you had to choose what region your were in during the driver install.

    Hi,

I'm in the UK and I can tell you that you should NOT need an adaptor with 13 channels. As far as I can tell, most networks here seem to work on channels 1 to 12, mostly channel 1 and channel 6.

My adaptor is built into mt Dell notebook, but my daughter uses a Belkin G PCMCIA card with very little trouble. Our home network is currently running on channel 1.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike
