Setting up spare drive in RAID
I've got a PowerEdge 2900 with a 6-disc RAID 5 array. I now have a spare drive assembly and want to install it in one of the empty drive bays and set it up as a spare which will be used automatically if one of the other drives fails. Can somebody point me in the direction of instructions on how to do this?

If have open manage it's easier to create the hotspare in Open Manage. Click storage tab>controller>virtual disk and select the drop box option
The Ctrl M bios if you have a perc controller does the same function but is the pre-boot utility. So either program will do the job the same.

there are two ways you can do this ;
Method 1
You can configure the hot spare in there.
Method 2
If you have Dell OpenManage Storage Management (OMSM) installed you can do it via that
