948 AIO USB Problem

I have an Inspiron 1420 with Windows Vista.  When I plug the printer into the USB port, I get a message stating Communication not Available.  I have plugged other items in the port and they work fine. I have tried plugging my printer it in all the ports and I get the same message.  I have changed cords.

I had the incorrect OS.  It is Vista.  Please help me.

    lady0715,

I would recommend disconnecting the printer. Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

    Restart your computer.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Starting at the bottom, USB Root Hubs, and working your way to the top, USB Universal Controllers, un-install everything in that section.

Restart your computer. Windows will find everything again and correct the problem one. Please be patient. The new hardware wizard may work 3-5 minutes before it's done.

Then install the XP Drivers. You can sue the printer disk or the drivers located at...(the patch is there, too)

    948 All-In-One (PRODUCT) RED™ Printer owners thread (W7)

After you install the printer, then try this tweak.

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

    Restart your computer.

    Let me know what happens.

While reinstalling the printer I got a message stating “In order to continue the installation, your printer must be connected using the USB cable.  I plugged in the cable but the USB port doesn’t recognize it.  BTW There is no file called My Computer.  There is one called Computer. When I click on the Device Manager there is nothing that says Hardware.  It just lists the Hardware including the USB Ports.  When I click on the Universal Serial Bus controllers, there’s no + signs so I can’t uninstall anything.  When I click them, there’s a message stating “ The device is working properly".

I still have the installation disc that came with the printer.  Should I use it to reinstall the printer?

    waynemorgan2,

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system?
