A940 printer does not work with my XP pc

I use a PC with Windows XP SP3 and am trying to set it up so that I can use A940. I was using the printer with no trouble but since I installed Norton 360 v4, I have not been able to use the printer.

To fix this trouble, I installed latest Windows updates and java updates. Then I uninstalled the old drivers for A940 by using "Add or Remove programs" under Control Panel.

I reinstalled the latest versions of drivers from Dell website.

Actually I was able to print a test page. But when I try to print any documents (I tried Word documents, PDF, web pages), the printing jobs go into the queue but just stay there forever - until I delete the jobs.

I also have a PC that has Vista and the printer works fine with that PC. I still have to get the printer work with this PC with XP.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    SK2,

You need to read THIS ARTICLE. You have to allow the printer past Norton.

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for your reply.

I read the article and changed the settings of firewall of Norton 360 accordingly but the printer still does not work. I also contacted Symantec and see if I could get help. Per the instructions from the tech support person, I turned off the firewall (the entire feature) but the printer still didn't print.

Maybe it has nothing to do with me installing Norton 360!?

    SK2,

First thing I'd try is to reinstall the printer. Make sure to allow the printer past Norton.

Disconnect the printer. Download and run the patch(printer cleanup utility) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

    Restart your computer.

Download and install the proper drivers. You'll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on)

Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...
