All of a sudden my Dell A940 printer started pulling the paper in unevenly. It pulls the right side of the paper (as you face it) down into the corner and then it wont go in causing it to read as a paper jam. Any suggestions? ?
I'm having a very similar problem with my A920. It's very annoying, as it seems like something that should not happen, and completely keeps me from printing documents. Can anyone help?
I called Dell and (after being on hold for 30 minutes) was told that it was a malfunctioning roller which is unrepairable. The service rep was excellent however and agreed to send me a refurbished printer to replace mine even though I was ten days (!!!) after the expiration of my service contract.
Mine did this for a while and I finally just gave the paper a little extra room between the sliding things that adjust size and it fixed the problem. Maybe this will work for you as well.
I don't know what you mean by giving a paper a little extra room. I have been without my printer for a couple months now because of the paper unevenly going into print mode. I am very frustrated and can't seem to get through to anyone on line or by phone. I quess I just don't have the patients to wait half hour for my call to be answer'd Help anyone, I so do need my printer, my spouse is on a liver transplant list and I need to copy things that get sent to me. Thanks in advance for your time. Linda
I know what you mean about giving the paper more room, I just don't have any extra room in the tray. The standard 8 1/2 by 11 stuff pushes it as far over as it goes, so I'm stuck without much wiggle room here. And because of the I haven't had any time to call yet... (what a series)
On the back of the printer where the paper loads there is a sliding gray plastic peice (mine sits on the left) squeeze this (mine has little round peices sticking forward) with your fingers to unlock it and slide it as far left as it will go. I don't know if it will help you but mine loaded the paper like you discribed for about a month before I tried this and this fixed my problem. It really didn't take much more room, it was just enough to let the paper sit a little more freely in the loading tray.
I received a replacement printer when I reported this problem to Dell. Nothing else I tried worked including all of the suggestions above. Set aside some time when you can wait as long as it takes to get someone on the phone and they will tell you the same thing I imagine. If you are within your warranty time period, you'll get a free printer (refurbished) if not you will likely have to get another one. The Dell rep told me the problem is not fixable.
I am having this exact same problem too. I contacted email support after performing all the troubleshooting suggestions, which was no help. They told me that I would have to replace the printer as my warranty expired on 8/24/2004!!!! This is very upsetting since I have only had this printer 15 months.
The very same thing has happened to my printer. I utilized all suggestions but I am still without a printer. I called Dell several times and waited 45 minutes on one call and 30 minutes on another call. Both times I was told I am out of my warranty period and I will have to replace the printer. This is insane and very poor business. I reported Dell to the Better Business Bureau. At the very least they should be able to provide parts. It is obvious that the printer is defective or there would not be so many complaints on this message board.
I have not called the customer service center for that very reason...I do not wish to spend 40+ minutes waiting for someone to tell me that I will just have to bite the bullet and replae the printer. I have always been a great fan of Dell products, but needless to say, this has changed my opinion.
