In Microft Office XP Word, when I highlight something then try to type over it the highlighted text will not delete. Rather it just adds the typed text to the highlighted text. At first I thought it was because of the Insert-toggle key... but it wasn't. It's very annoying especially since I've been using this method for over 10 years.
Nine times out of ten, all problems with Word end up being caused by the file "normal.dot" (without quotes).
Of the remaining one out of ten, half of those are caused by too many temp files hanging around.
So:
Close Word.
Open Windows Explorer and do a search for "normal.dot" (without quotes).
Delete all copies of the file that you find.
Restart the computer.
Word will recreate a new normal.dot that's good to go.
Try again with the highlighting.
Next go to Start | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Clean Up and run it.

"I wonder why/how these things just reset on their own like that." There's a component in the PC motherboard called the Random Aggravation Circuit. Every now and then Windows uses this to screw with us. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!) Val
