DVD/CD device not working

Hi
I have an Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP.  All of a sudden I can't play CD's or DVD's.
This is the error message I get in Device Manager: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

I ran a diagnostic audio test and it played a CD but i can't even see the drive listed in Windows Explorer anymore.

Please can someone help!
Thanks

Follow the steps in the Article carefully.  It will usually solve the problem.

Thanks very much.  That worked a treat.

Only thing is that my keyboard shortcuts e.g. to eject a CD still aren't working.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks again.

Are you using a docking station? If so there maybe a problem. Trt off the docking station. If it works, the mother board is probably damaged.
