NEC 1100A Problems
Hi
I am in the UK and have the NEC 1100a DVD Drive,when I bought it is was supposed to read both + and - DVDs.I tried to burn to a -DVD and it said "please insert media" when a DVD was already in the drive ready to burn to.
Neros toolkit says that the drive will read DVD-Rs but obviously this is not the case.Noticed that quite a few people are having the same problem and have heard about Firmware that will make the drive read DVD-Rs.I dont really know what firmware is and how to use it.
Is that any way to make the drive dual compatable ?

Flashed the drive and it still wont write to DVD-R.
Is there any way around this ?

Hi Barney,
Currently Carolyn is off-line, the NEC 1100a was not designed to write to the DVD-R or DVD-RW media. Dell will not release a firmware to convert the drive to this format.
However the Dangerous Brothers over at the Firmware Forum created a "hack" that does seem to work. Due to Dell`s policy I cannot post the link, you must search yourself and I must also state the following: The use of a firmware not validated by Dell will void the warranty on the drive.
