My PC laptop has had 2 hard drive replacements in the year I have had this bought brand new just got it back bout 2 weeks ago from second one now its doing this support assist is not running hardware scan!
It says "preparing" but nothing happens 13 minutes. Then this message appears:
An unexpected error while running this request.
SupportAssist was unable to complete the requested task at this time.
To retry, close the SupportAssist application and run the task again.
If this problem persists, click the Get Support Tab. this is after a update it did on itself yesterday Im so glad I just extended my warranty on it for another year as it ran like two days after I got it back from the second hardware replacement on warranty ,but I extended it on that day Crazy thing is I don't use it for anything but watching tv ,movies ,ply browser games ect… No downloads anywhere but from Microsoft store im crazy about keeping it clean n safe so why???? someone tell me if your having same issues please.
I have an Alienware R4 and had this issue since I got the laptop in November (2017)… 52 days left on warranty. I have tried to diagnose, done online chat with support, they ended up telling me to wait for another release. I got one today, no change... thanks, Dell.
This has been a reoccurring problem judging from the forum posts. Go to the following thread and read the reply from the moderator. Apparently this has worked for some users.

The better way to run a hardware diagnostic is outside of Windows - F12 at few times before windows loads to get in.
