I am assuming that you are trying to do an iSCSI replication between VNXe3300 and VNX5300. VNXe uses file level iSCSI and you would need to get an RPQ approved to enable that on the VNX side. You will have to work with your EMC account team to get the RPQ process started.

yes iscsi is the only way, what does RPQ stands for?

if it is recover point then i like to avoid that because the need to buy extra appliances.

RecoverPoint doesn't work here

AFAIK it only does FC and not ISCSI

Sorry - you can't do that one with array tools

VNXe ISCSI is file level (Celerra) and VNX block is Clariion ISCSI

Different tools are used there

Either use host level copy / replication or upgrade the VNX to file with data movers so that you can use Celerra ISCSI and Replicator there

Its actually not that confusing - just think of the VNXe as a Celerra without Clariion SAN option (for now)

you can use IP Replicator for NFS and CIFS much like between Celerra's

major difference is that the VNXe doesnt do VDMs or multi-protocol

In terms of block the only option on the VNXe is file system based ISCSI (like it was on Celerra).

So you need to use IP Replicator there as well BUT have to add Replication Manager to control it.

Since the VNXe currently doesnt have Clariion layered software you cant use MirrorView or SANcopy.

So you cant use or replicate block FC or ISCSI LUNs

The difficulty with the original posters question was that he said he only has a VNX block - meaning what used to be called a Clariion.

That one only contains the storage processers but not file hardware like data movers and control stations.

Without them you cant use IP Replicator.

I thought the VNXe series were both file and block arrays, from the document on the EMC site "At a Glance: EMC VNXe Series" i saw this sentence: "Designed for IT managers with limited storage expertise, the VNXe series facilitates complete storage consolidation with advanced file and block functionality as well as a simple, application-driven approach to managing shared storage" also in the file "EMC VNXe Series for IT Consolidation" the sentence about how simple and efficent the VNXe is : "As a unified, integrated storage solution, the VNXe series is an optimal consolidation solution for file and block applications."

Am i misunderstanding the VNXe in that respect, im used to work with Clariions and mirrorview technology, are block level functionality different on the VNXe than VNX ( Clariion )?

So the bottom point is that i am not able to replicate beetween 2 brand new EMC arrays from the same product line at the array level?

The VNX array will be used with existing fiber channel infratructure at the customer site, will that prevent me from using the VNXe as destination array for replication?
