CPU Temperature Monitors ??

DELL E-310 - 3.06 Prescott - Hyperthreading ON - 2GB DDR2 - 533 FSB - 500GB Seagate HDD - 3500 MB Virtual memory - Intell 10/100/1000 Eternet - COX.net @ 25Mbps Download, 4Mbps Upload thru SB5120 Modem --

Windows XP Home SP3 - McAfee Total Protection - Windows Defender

How can I monitor the temperatures of my processor ???
I want to be able to check it periodically so that I can add more cooling, if needed.

I do not plan to attempt over-clocking or tweaking the memory speeds, I just want to protect what I have.

Is there something built into Win XP SP3 that would do that, or do I need some sort of aftermarket software ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Peace.
Slik

1 - My eyes still hurt after reading your text. Please use normal text as all other. You will get a lot more responses.

2- I don't think there's anything incorporated in windows but there are plenty of software to monitor temperature, rps of vents, etc. I use evereast, but that cost money, Google for free programs, there are dozens.

    Thank you for your response.

I actually was hoping for a more positive answer to my question --- such as a "yes" or "no" regarding Windows availability, and the actual name of a product recommendation as a result of printed tests and/or personal experience.

If your eyes hurt from reading blue text on a white background, I suggest you see an optalmologist as soon as possible.
The combination of blue script on a white background is actually very easy on the eyes, lending to less fatigue and possibility of developing depression over long-term exposure.

And it's quite evident that the designers of this forum site agree --- notice the color of the text on the left, and how much easier it is to read the words "Windows XP" which appear in bold typeface.

     Peace.

Try Everest Home Edition. It includes sensor info on temperature of the CPU and GPU.

    A free download from:

    Thanks for your prompt response.

I downloaded the file and got a window message that the file is corrupt.

Went directly to Everest, and found that the freeware is discontinued.

Tried Spiceware, but that's WAY more complicated than necessary for my simple needs.

I hear so many users talking about their CPU temps that I thought such monitors were common. I guess they're not so common, after all.

    Thanks again.

     Peace.

I agree with gigiipse It's not the colours so much, it's the font but even then blue is not the chromatic inverse of grey but of yellow. That is why you would see old DOS text screens of yellow on blue.

I think Intel have a hardware monitor utility which is compatible with some chipsets.

Try to google: cpu temperature monitore

With this search I found no less than 4 free programs on the first page. I used: www.google.ro Just choose the one that fits you best. I'd go for speedfan for a simple easy to use program.

    Hi Joe53,

I have Everest Home 1.5.1 and ran it on my Dimension 8400 from a limited user account.  I couldn't find any temperature for the CPU - can you explain how to navigate to that information?

    Thank you.

    Sincerely, Libra1

I went where ya sent me, Joe -- an' was very pleased with the S I W site.

They sure give a ton of info about my machine, but I still haven't been able to determine what's up with the CPU temps.

According to what I can find out, there are no sensors on my processor ---and that just doesn't seem right.

I would think that the mobo and processor are new enough and fast enough to warrant sensors --- since it seems that so many other computer addicts are yakkin' about their CPU temps and cooling fans --- and whatnot.

All I can find is a sensor on the Seagate 500 GB HDD, which runs @ 40C- 45C.

    The processor is a 3.06 GHz P4 Prescott-Socket 775 LGA w/ 2 Gigs  DDR2 5300 memory on 533 FSB on a DELL-Intel  mobo -Model OWJ770

I want to protect that Processor, which I'm told tends to run kinda hot --- and it sure would be nice to know just how hot it is !!

My warranty is long gone, so if I KNEW my chip was runnin' hot, I'd put a good heat-sink-fan combo on there, just to be on the safe side.

In addition,to the S I W site, I also went to Speedfan, and they weren't much help, either.

Mebbe I'm just too dumb to see what's right in front of me --- but I can't find any sensors --

     Tanks-a-ton for your help !!

     Peace.

    Libra1:

I use Everest Home Edition v2.2, which may be different.

The free edition of Everest is no longer available from the vendor, though a google search might find you an alternate download site of a usable copy; try here~
    http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=everesthome

At any rate, try opening Everest,  and look around for a sensor icon to click on. Temps for the CPU/GPU are listed there.
