most appropriate memory format

Hello helpful readers

I have a query about memory.

I want to upgrade my existing 1GB (split between two 512 modules) to 2GB (max for my laptop).

Unfortunately this means I will have to buy two 1GB modules (sadly my laptop is'nt dual channel compatable).

I looked on the dell website and by two different routes I get two vastly different prices!

Even though both times I specified my laptop by modal (inspiron 1501) it gave me two different results.

Either 1GB (1X1024MB) 533 Mhz DDR2 @ £75.20! or 1GB (128X64) 667 Mhz DDRII @ only £20.55

Even though my laptop is a 533Mhz Bus speed with existing memory at 533 Mhz speed does this mean I have to necessarily buy the more expensive memory or can I buy the cheaper option.

I spoke to someone at Dell and they tried to convince me that the more expensive memory was better for my laptop. Something to do with the bit in brackets - 1X1024 and 128X64. I didn't understand his explanation of the difference though.

Can anyone enlighten me?
