From what I have read, everyone else is having the exact same issues with OE 6 that I am/have been having. The unable to click on link issue has been resolved...ask me how...I haven't a clue as I have gotten so many suggestions. I really don't know what worked. In fact, I couldn't even post on this discussion board, because I couldn't click the link to confirm my registration!!!!
Then I was/am still getting the error messages that other people have described. Have done everything suggested...still getting them. The latest:Mcinfo.exe Application Error Instruction )x0185494e referenced at 0x0ooooooooooo8. The memory could not "read"...Click to terminate.
Have been getting all the messages already posted Failed to scan e-mail account, etc. and have followed all the instructions I have received and all of my settings are correct.
Is anybody else getting the following problem...everytime you turn off your computer, turn it back on, go to e-mail, you get 3 days worth of messages (even if you have read and deleted them a zillion times.)
Dell Support says contact software. Outlook Express says contact Dell, since it came preinstalled on my computer. Someone is trying to pass the buck and I am ready to throw my Dell computer out the window and get a Gateway again!!!!!!! This is ridiculous. Anyone have any ideas?
According to
this TrendMicro article, mcinfo.exe, a McAfee component, may fall victim to certain worms. So blaming Dell or Microsoft is likely not going to resolve the problem. The article contains manual removal instructions. In addition to scanning your system for viruses with an updated version of McAfee's virus definitions, you may want to to check the machine for malware using Ad-Aware and Spybot as described in
this article.

Jimw...I took your advice and bought the two items mentioned in the link you provided. So I guess we will see...they say they come with a 30 day money back guarantee, so either they fixed it or they didn't and only time will tell.
I appreciate your response, but it surely does seem as if Dell, OE, Mcafee, etc. are all in some sort of a conglomeration to give their customers the run around. Each one offered me tips to "fix" the problems, but when none of them worked, they all passed the buck. Bottom line, Dell installed these programs on my computer, it is only 2 1/2 months old and I have a 2 year service agreement which I do not feel they have upheld. It does not seem as if I should have to purchase another $50 worth of products to fix what should have been covered under their already installed software. My Mcafee program supposedly already had a spyware tracker. I remain disgruntled.
Ran the above programs...then shut down, restarted. I am still getting EVERY message in my e-mail from March 29, forward. At some point, it will take 30 minutes to just download my e-mail messages. There is still something obviously wrong, which no one wants to take credit for. I'm at a loss as to what to do next.
I'm puzzled as to why you didn't just download the free versions of Ad-Aware and Spybot. Did either of them find any problems?
It seems to me you're describing two different problems that may be related. First, a problem with "mcinfo.exe" crashing. Second, a problem with Outlook Express repeatedly downloading the same EMAIL messages over and over.
Are both problems still happening?
Since there's at least one active thread discussing the Outlook Express problem (I think it's in the XP board, since Outlook Express is part of Windows XP), you might want to watch that thread for solutions.
If someone more familiar with OE and problems with McAfee wants to post in this thread, please do so.
(edit) I found
this thread in the XP board. It sounds like the resolution is to clean up after McAfee's spamblocker! See the post by "PTwhizbang".
Oh, by the way...I guess I checked a wrong box for keeping this thread on top of board list. If you know how to let it float with the others, please change it.
Thanks for the heads up on the other thread Jim. I posted there too, as our problems are exactly alike in regards to getting all e-mails since 3/29. When I just turned computer on tonight for first time, checked e-mail, I got only today's messages. Well...I posted on the other thread about it. So far haven't gotten a McAfee error message.
Anyways, the reason I purchased the software is because I ran the trial version. The Registry found something like 300+ things wrong. When I said "fix it" I got a message that only "x" number could be fixed, to fix the rest, I had to buy the product. Same with the Spyware.
Thanks again for directing me to the other thread. I appreciate your help.
