Creative's PlayCenter is sort of confusing.

First of all, you need to check several things. Go into your MyComputer|properties|DeviceManager, expand the CDROM, highlight the drive which you use, and then select properties. On the Settings tab, there should be a box labeled "auto insert notification". In your case, it may be necessary for that box to be enabled in order for the PlayCenter Disc Detector to work. I am uncertain of this because I do not use the notification.

Regardless of that, the next thing that you want to check is the PlayCenter player settings. Go to the player's lower left corner icon and pull up the Media Menu. When you insert a CD into your CDROM, the player's Media should display that the [x:] Drive is in Use. If it doesn't you will need to examine why not.

This final solution may be because the Disc Detector has not detected that the CD is in the CDROM. On the Disc Detector "General tab", you will need to select not only "enable disc detector" but also select the proper drive (e.g. D: Samsung). However, you are not finished yet. In addition to selecting these two options, you need to go to the "Player's tab" and make certain that the default player for the various CD categories is the one of your choice. For example, if you want the PlayCenter to be the default player for your "EnhancedCD", you will need to highlight that category, click the SELECT PLAYER button, and insert in the "Name" box PlayCenter, in the "Target" box C:\Program Files\Creative\PlayCenter\CTPlay.exe, in the "Paramters" box insert %1, and in the "Start In" box C:\Program Files\Creative\PlayCenter (most of these however will probably generate themselves when you use the "Browse" button to seek a default player, in this case the CTPlay.exe program).

Personally, I do not use any of this because I have several mediaplayer's for different uses and the Disc Detector program appeared to me to be interfering with everything. However, I suspect that your problem is jumbled somewhere in all of these preferences, and settings.

Thanks for the help.
All settings are as they should be.
However, when I bring up PlayCenter and click on the lower left hand cornor, both my cd and dvd player are shown as unsuported.
I have no idea how to deal with this. Can you make a few suggestions?

I think that is because of the Disc Detector's "Players tab". Have you attempted to see what is in your "Players tab" Name, Target, Paramters, Start In boxes for your CD, or for your DVD?

Okay. Go to the Play Center System Menu|Preferences and make certain that you have enabled "Start playback when launched via player icon". Then go to the yellow [but probably "hidden"] buttons on the face of the player [directly below the "PlayCenter icon" in the top left corner]. When you hover over each one, the caption box should display: "Repeat Mode, Intro Mode, and Random Mode". Make certain that either Repeat Mode, or Random Mode is selected (i.e. yellow).

After you have ascertained that the "Start Playback is checked" and that the mode is either "Repeat, or Random", then reboot.

Now insert a CD in your tray.

Open the Creative PlayCenter player (via Start|Programs|Creative|CreativePlayCenter, or double-click your desktop icon).

Does the CD begin playing automatically, one track after another; and moreover, when you click the Media button [lower left corner], is the [D:] Play This Disc now active?

I followed your instructions but, when clicking on the PlayCenter icon, it will not play more than 1 track at a time and still shows both drives as unsuported.

Just to be sure...

I want to make certain that you understand that my directions were for inserting your CD in the tray, and then for opening your PlayCenter mediaplayer via the procedure of either double-clicking your desktop icon, or for using the roundabout Start|Programs|Creative|CreativePlayCenter.

At the moment, I am under the impression that you may be clicking the little "boxed" PLAY>Center on the face of the player.

Regardless of that, if you feel that all of your settings are set correctly...and if you have followed my suggestions to this point, then it would seem to me that your next step would be to use the Creative Restore Defaults. Although I do not believe that restoring will be helpful, it is definitely worth trying. After that, your next two options would be: to check your registry entries for "settings", and/or to reinstall the PlayCenter drivers. The latter is far more involved than the problem warrants, and I personally would NOT reinstall drivers: there are too many risks.

(Somewhere along in here it will be worth your while to visit the UK Creative forum for suggestions, and insight.)
