My screen saver won't work. I've gone to Start +Control Panel+Display+Screen Saver+ Selecting A Saver+ Time+Apply+ OK and it does not come on.
Help!!!!
Click on Start|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services. Right-click on Task Scheduler service. Left click on Properties. Set "Start Type" to "Automatic" and click "Apply". See if that fixes your problem.
No, I have just two replies and both suggestions didn't work. I called Dell and they went through a Hardware check and all is in order. They did suggest something simple, "turn off the monitor." I can't believe that I didn't think of that as temporary soultion. I currently do that and also put the computer on Standby. Neither are the options that I like but until I get a fix, I'm stuck with it.
Check this registry option to determine if the screensaver is activated.
Note: Backup the registry before changing any values.
Click Start|Run. Type regedit. Press Enter.
Click File|Export. File Name:20060217.reg.
Navigate to the following registry key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Control Panel|Desktop
Scroll down in right panel and highlight "ScreenSaveActive" Right click on ScreenSaveActive. Left click on Modify. To activate screensaver set this value to 1, otherwise it should be 0.
Warning: Editing the registry is dangerous. Incorrect values can render your system inoperable. Proceed at your own risk.
You're lucky, I can't get mine to go on standby. It stays on the desktop. I tried Dell for help, they only recognize hardware problems and referred me to MS. MS in turn referred me back to the computer manufacturer (DELL). I'm stuck in a loop and still waiting for a solution.
This was one of the responses that I received. The other was the standard, Start, Control Panel, Display, ETC. See if this helps. Any port in a storm.
Big Time
Click on Start|Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services. Right-click on Task Scheduler service. Left click on Properties. Set "Start Type" to "Automatic" and click "Apply". See if that fixes your problem.
Click on Start|Run. Type sfc /scannow. This will verify that all your Windows system files are the correct version. You may need XP CD so have it handy. Needed files should be in d:\i386 where d is your CD drive letter.
