If you to delete the partition to leave only one partition, after you delete all the partitions, you need to create one (clicking on NEW) and apply with all the size available...

 

Sorry for not being clear. I wondered if I go into the Advanced option and click to format, will I end up deleating the partitions as well.

I would not like to delete partitions because I do not understand much about that.

Will it be save to go into the advanced options to format and to then just continue with the VISTA os reinstallation?

Here is where you have to click the advance options, the format option will come up. After the format, go ahead and install it, you will not see the windows.old folder...

That is magic. Now it is very clear to me as to why I had this windows.old when I thought that I did a custom installation. I did not do that.

So one has to go into the advanced and click to format.  That explains. This will also erase all the partitions and will it have any problem with Dell?

Would you mind telling me if

1. At this stage of the installation should I need to be attached to the internet?

 

2. I also need another question answered regarding Intel 825xx Gigabit Platform LanNetwork Device. Vista seem to install its generic Driver for this. But Dell has a release [R142352] on the 30th March 2007 and suggests with high recommendation.  Would this be necessary for single home computers like mine?[I ask this because Dell note suggests this will improve the computer performance]

Yes you can do a clean install, you just need to format the partitions... There is a point where it ask you to select the aprtition you want to install Vista... The Format option is not visible, you need to click on Advanced options to see the Format option

Nop, if you format a partition, it will delete all on that partition, not the other partitions... That's the Delete option for...

So, the delete partition make the partition invisible for Windows, while formating is just delete all the content...

does not display in my VISTA run computer.

However when I at work went to the thread run on XP professional os, I was surprised to see a photo display you have posted with that caption.

I am just letting you know of a dicrepency that you may already aware of.

It is weird... On my two Vista systems, it display sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't... Kind of weird, but this is the link
