The VS80 version of that autloader is a LUN based device meaning that the changer is a Logical Unit of the Drive. Only the drive has an ID.

Storage device configuration error?

Yep, it's a LUN device, hey but make sure you don't have removeable strorage services running under window services. Also, Make sure it's not on the same scsi ID as the adaptec card.

After checking all that, but back up but to a complete powercycle of first the tape unit and then the server. See what errors if any post when you do that.

Also, load up the veritas drivers, easiet way I found to do it was run tapeinst.exe (do a search on it in windows). If you have backupexec installed, its installed. Click use veritas drivers. You should be good to go then.

If not, post more of your error here.

Thanks for Replying..

Here is what I am getting now after the server fist boots. In BackupExec the tape drive appears as a standalone unit..

After the server starts I got the following message

from: ntmssvc on server

User:

Subj: *** Administrator Alert ***

Configuration for device changer0 failed. see event log for more details..

Event log details

Unable to auto-configure library unit Changer0. The current setup of the library unit does not support automatic configuration. You will either have to modify the current setup of the library to adhere to automatic configuration guidelines (if possible) or manually configure the device.

Any ideas?? Thanks again for you time..

Where are you seeing that?? In the event manager or veritas software.

Sounds like something is confused. You may want to just go ahead and delete the robot and the drive out of the device menu in veritas by right clicking and click delete. Then go back through device configuration. Remember, when you go through device configuration if for some reason reports the drive as standalone and the robot as standalone, in veritas you can drag the drive under the robot in the device configuration screen where you see they are standalone.

Let me know how that works. If that does not work post your OS and version. Also, remember this is a LUN device. If you do not enable LUN support on the adaptec card as well, you might have problems.

I see all this in event viewer... I am going to remove all hardware from device manager and from the Veritas Software and start over..  I think I have found a posting to help me with my "changer0" error. I don't really understand how to enable LUN support on the Adaptec card.. It that on the card itself or in device manager or something...

I really do appriciate you help//

Cheers!!!
