I believe the problem here is when the motherboard was replaced the Perc 3/di / Adaptec AIC-7899 was configured incorrectly. Look in the System BIOS > Integrated Devices Screen > Embedded SCSI Controller and set Channel A to Raid and Channel B to Scsi. This is assuming the tape drive is connected to the motherboard and not to a PCI card.

That was it!
It took the phone support guy two hours to think of that - he told me those errors were normal with firmware 2.7!
