PowerVault 210S and SEMM.

We have a PowerVault 210S with two SEMM controllers. It works fine to hook one SEMM up to our PowerEdge 2850, but if we hook up both it freezes up or just keeps looping on boot. Does anyone know why this is? Can SEMM controllers not be piped into the same RAID controller? The 210S can handle SEMM cards can't it?

Well, I've discovered the solution. SEMM cards do work with the 210S, the problem is when you have two of them set to cluster mode and attempt to hook them into the same RAID controller. Changing the mode is just a matter of changing the jumpers on the controllers.

FYI setting to Cluster mode, then attaching to the same controller gives two paths to the same drives, and the software cannot resolve the conflict.  Both paths will think they "own" the drive and will write conflicting data.

When attaching both SEMMs to the same controller card, use Split Bus Mode.
