Move Uninstrumented Devices out of Unknown?

Right-click, Remove should do it.  If they are in fact excluded for discovery, they should not come back.

 

You sort of missed the point. I know how to fully remove a device. I'd like to have certain devices grouped and then removed from uninstrumented. It's nice to have discovery wide open so that all devices would be picked up. I would imagine it's a rare network that is ENTIRELY populated by Dell devices. With HP SIM, you can specify custom device types based on standard SNMP OIDs so non HP devices can still be classified, just not really managed. Static configs in network monitoring s*cks, unless you have a static network.

I'm trying to understand you.  I'm going to ask you questions about your posting to get a better idea of what you're looking for.

Do you want the software to automatically do that for you?  Perhaps some type of filter wizard that helps you setup the criteria to group them by?

I've got an idea.  Not sure if it will work for you but it's worth a try. 

1. Under the Devices view, right click on "All Groups"

2.  Select "New Group"

3.  Name the new group (Perhaps Dell Printers) and click Next

4.  In Step 2 of the Add Group Wizard, select the button for "Select a query".  Click New to create a new query.  Name the query.  Select some criteria that will help you detect whatever device you are wanting to be in this group.  (Maybe MAC Address, Name, or NIC Manufacturer)

5.  Test the query by clicking Run Query.  See if it found the devices you want to be in the new group.

6.  Save your query if it worked correctly.  Click Next.

7.  Click Finish

Hi All,

I'm stuck on this too.  I've created several groups and associated queries which work fine (mostly).

The problem is that machines appear in both the new group(s) and 'unknown'.

Ideally I want as few 'unknowns' in my list as possible so I have a clear picture on exactly what is in the environment.  Creation of 'custom groups' doesn't seem to be anything more than a cute way of querying all devices.  I may be wrong, but that's what I'm seeing with our uninstrumented devices.
