USING U160 and U320 on Same controller but different channles/Chains

Question

Evening All, I have a PowerVault 220 U360 External Storage Array and a PowerVault 114 U160 LTO-2 Tape drive. Is it possible to run both from the same PERC 4/DC SCSI RAID controller but on different channels, not the same chain? If so would they both run at U160 or would they run independantly of one another as in run U320 on one channel and U160 on the other? Thanks in advance!!

StorageTalk,   Thanks. I was worried about that. Would probably really be bad if I wanted to backup the 220 with that tape drive as well. I will have to come up with an alternate solution then. Thanks for your input.

Possible and they'de run at whatever speed they can.   Highly not reccomended though.  The PERC is meant to have a raid device attached, not a tape.  You'd be opening up yourself to timeouts on the 220 with a tape drive attached to the same controler.

Dev Mgr,   Sorry about that. Yes that was the initial plan, except I only have one slot open on the server for both devices. I am currently going to mirgrate the existing server to another server to accomodate both SCSI cards and devices.

You would want to connect the PV220S to the perc and the tape drive to a 39160 or 39320 or so.
