Dell advises all to upgrade their XPS410 BIOS?

The Dell support popup dialog box appeared in the lower right corner of my screen and recommends upgrading my BIOS. Is this a new policy? Whatever happened to "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". This isn't just a video driver or some other simple driver they are advising their customers to do. Do they think J.Q. Public understands the risks?

dgerard,

Agreed. Just because a file is new is not grounds to install it. If your PC is running well, leave it alone.

well than why is the dell support box popping up?

Perhaps this is good commenary on the usefulness of the dell software.  This is a good reason why I do not use it.  I doesn't help you and it absorbs cpu cycles.

I just looked it over on support.dell.com and it seems to just add some Media Card Reader functionality. If you're running XP and everyting's fine, you should be okay. If you're running Vista, you probably should update, since recent updates are geared more and more toward better Vista compatability.

ya, I wouldn't worry about it.  matter of fact, I would get rid of the software too.  It really doesn't help much.  But that is your choice.

I have 2.3.0 and the Dell support app. recommends I upgrade to 2.4.2. Never saw this recommendation before, even though the 2.4.2 bios was released in April.
