Reinstalled XP

My computer crashed. I reinstalled XP with the disk that came from Dell. Some of the options like hibernate are no longer running with this installation of windows. The hard drive had to be reformatted and it just isn't the same. The Control F11 option did not work to return to factory settings. Why is it different and how do I restore the factory settings now?

Most factory configurations of the hard drive in a computer have 3 partitions installed, 2 of those are hidden(depending on the OS). If you reformatted and reinstalled the operating system, you might have erased the partition that held the Restore configuration. If that is the case, there is little hope of the Control + F11 option working.

What others are not running besides hibernate? I bet hibernate works, it just no longer is displayed at the shut down menu. At the shut down menu press the Shift Key. Hibernate should appear. This will happen after reinstallation of XP. For hibernate to appear it has to be done manual which I do not know out to fix.

Hello

You may have to reinstall the Resource OS CD again as all of the features should be installed to their default settings.

Go to the Start Menu and Right Click on My Computer and then click on Properties which will open a window with several tabs.  Click on advanced and the top box will have a settings option.  Click on it and then click on Device Manager.  If you notice any yellow question marks then this driver is not loaded on your system.  Your entire system components will be listed with plus signs adjacent to the Title and click on the + sign which will dropdown all of the components of that category which are on your system.

You can also run msconfig in the run option from your start menu which may help.

If these options do not work then go to support.dell.com and then click on Technical Support and when the window opens click on Drivers and Downloads which will open another window where there will be a box to enter your Service Tag and then click go.  This will provide you with all of the downloads and drivers for your specific system and allow you to download any driver you choose.

However, be advised that you must know EXACTLY which Modem, DVD module, chipset, etcetera.  Also, you can download Dell Support 3.2 which will provide you with a system check and also provide you with a link to pccheckup.dellfix.com which will diagnosis your system with an option to "fix it" if their is a problem and it will automatically fix the issue.

It is a good idea to access the aforementioned site for updating the drivers as you can download the latest BIOS.

I am hopeful that this information is helpful to you.

Take care and Godspeed!
