XPS 630i - Nvidia 9800 GT - Cooling issue.
Have noticed stuttering graphics and multiple small stutterings when in some instances while playing EverQuest II on this system. I have a special gaming profile that ramps up the intake fans to (supposedly) 35% top & bottom.
(Reason why I say supposedly is that there is no way to verify the speed setting from the profile.)
Is there a way to keep the video card cooler? WHen I opened the side cover, while grouding myself, I found the the rear-portion of the video card case was rather hot. Still touchable, but no where cool as I would of hoped.
I got the 630i as it was an affordable medium-grade gaming system, and the case design allows for important parts to be cooler that the others, and the case is quite roomy. There is no heat build-up that I can tell anywhere except the video card.
Still have no SLi setup, then too, I don't have the SLi connector and no idea where to get one now that the old forums are gone.
Anyone have suggestions as how to keep the video card cooler, while being an affordable solution too? Fo now I clipped a small low-profile heatsink on the back end, so as not to block any venthilation slots, and stuck a plastic 90mm fan back there; it is all plastic and stitting loosely.
Wished was a way to pull cool air from the back of the case to blow a volume of cooler air over the video card. Searching NewEgg, the solutions they have available really don't show that it's pulling xxx amount of air from the outside to the inside.
Maybe the card wouldn't stay nearly as hot if I could find another (affordable) 9800 GT to SLi it with, providing I can find where in Dell to order one!

Download EVGA Precision and set you fan control to 80 or 100% when gaming then turn down to 30 or 40 when not.

35% isn't nearly fast enough to cool your card. I use 100% when gaming and my card never goes above 60 degrees.

The 9800 GT card has been doing well, and upgraded to the newer EVGA Precision software, and now I see temperatures from 61° up to 66°, which starts showing strange horizontal mirage lines. (I think the cards are measured in Celcius to keep end used from *** out and grabbing the halon fire extinguishers.)
Had a low profile heat sink stuck on the end by the no-so-well-ventilated slot covers, with a fan blowing over it - did not seem to make a huge differnce, maybe a couple of degrees.
I noticed that dust accumulates on top of the video card, so I'm assuming there's dead air space there, and not sure how to fix that. There any place to get the slot overs replaced with more ventilated ones? Those small squares don't seem to be getting the job done.
I wanted to add another video card in there, and trying to find the Dell SLi Bridge part number so I can order one now before I have to move.
Had also planned on adding a D-Link DWA-556 IEEE 802.11n to the PCIe x4 slot (since the x1 is way too close to the heat producing 9800 GT video card). But I'm worried about the heat the video card is putting out, and if it will affect the Wi-Fi card.
Suggestions? SLi Brige part number and where to purchase this?

Nice tool. Using it on my GTX 280 in my XPS 630i with the Precision Fan speed at 40, my default GTX 280 GPU temp (as seen in Real Temp) is 51C. I moved it up to 100 and the GPU temperature went down to 45C.

I reckon these cards just stay warm no matter what's done.
Oddly, I find the videoi card temperature rises when I play my Zune player software (minimized). I play music at night to help me sleep.
