Dell Studio 1737 Bluetooth?

;^) My XPS M1210 also came with the bluetooth logo, and no bluetooth.  Bluetooth is an optional extra that some folks didn't opt for, see, but the hardware is ready for it when you wish to take the plunge and upgrade.  I bought the bluetooth module from Dell and it works great.  The drivers came along with it, too.

Yes, it does. Open Control Panel and there you should have "Bluetooth Devices".  Click on Settings at the top and make sure your adaptor is turned on and that other devices are allowed to connect to your computer. Works fine between my 1737 and my Nokia phone for example.

As I normally do, I wipe any new Dell, and do a fresh install of Windows, rather than battle with changing and uninstalling all the stuff I don't like.

Well, Vista 64 installed with no issues. And I installed all the drivers for the items listed in the Device Manager. However, no Bluetooth Enumerator or Bluetooth Radio were listed anywhere in the Device Manager, nor were there any Unknown Hardware items listed, either! It appeared that all hardware was working and all drivers were installed. Wireless, LAN, video, sound, etc. Expanding every item in the Device Manager revealed nothing related to Bluetooth.

I knew that when I ordered my machine said it had Bluetooth. Checking my invoice of all the hardware inventory in the unit, nothing mentioned Bluetooth! Had I made a mistake?

I had the little white light with the Bluetooth symbol, and looking in the booklet for the laptop, it showed "White Bluetooth Light (Optional)" So then I wondered how it could be that I have the light, but no Bluetooth.

I went to Dell's hardware driver list for this laptop, and there, under Networking, it listed "Wireless 370 Bluetooth Minicard v6.2.0.6600 A13", so I downloaded these and ran thru the install, which I believe required a reboot.

After Rebooting, the Bluetooth Icon appeared on the Tooltray. I was then able to open the Bluetooth Manager and join a Bluetooth mouse to the laptop without issue. Checking Hardware Manager, I now see the Bluetooth device listed.

So, this laptop's hardware can fool you into thinking that it does not have the Bluetooth hardware, even when it does, and somehow the device is hidden to Vista, neither showing up as Bluetooth or Unknown Device in Device Manager until these drivers are installed.

I'm having the same problem, and when I tried installing the driver you mention, it brings up a dialog box asking me to press either Fn+F2 or turn on the radio button to turn on the Bluetooth adapter. There's no Bluetooth marking on the F2 button, and the radio button is on. Did you have to do anything to manually turn on the Bluetooth hardware before the driver would install?

No, I don't recall having to do anything differently than just install that full driver package. I don't think I removed the existing windows driver or anything like that.

Here's an image of the keyboard on the one I setup (I don't have possession of it, as I set it up for a family member), but as you can see, the F2 has no logo on it, either. You can hardly see the White Bluetooth light in the photo, but it was lit when I installed the drivers.

I tried installing the driver, but it kept asking me to turn the switch on - the only wireless switch was already in the on position, so it must not be installed on my laptop.

My Studio 1737 didn't come configured with a Bluetooth module and I was able to confirm that by opening up the panel on the bottom. It only had the wifi card, but the wwan and the wpan card slots were empty. I found a DELL Genuine TrueMobile 370 Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR auction on eBay and bought that bluetooth card. I installed it on my computer and after that the bluetooth light stayed solid the whole time. I didn't have any bluetooth hardware showing up in my device manager either after I did a clean install of Windows 7. I had even downloaded drivers from Dell after searching for drivers with my service tag. I didn't have any unidentified devices. But then I searched for all drivers for the Studio 1737 by searching for the model and not with the service tag and I was able to find the bluetooth drivers. After installing them I suddenly had the new device on my computer. I didn't have any of those problems with the driver installer asking me to turn on the card.

As for other people's problems with that, first, I would say verify that you have the bluetooth card physically installed in your laptop by getting a philips head screwdriver and taking off the bottom panel. If there is a blank area that has the letters "WPAN" written in it, then you just don't have a bluetooth card. If you do, then in the BIOS settings you can find settings for the wireless switch under Advanced. Make sure that the setting is to switch all devices or at least WLAN and WPAN. Once it's set that way, after the computer is all booted up back into windows, try switching the wireless switch to the off position, then back to on, then try the driver install again. If that still doesn't work, then try running Dell diagnostics or contact Dell support. They're usually really helpful. Hopefully if it's the case that your bluetooth module is broken, you are still under warranty and Dell will replace it for free. If not, then buy a new one on eBay or from some other vendor. I payed less than $20 for mine with shipping, so I don't think that's too bad for some bluetooth capabilities.
