Should I call Dell

I placed my order for the win7 upgrade on the morning of 10/22 and I got the confirmation that the order was received, but nothing else.  I know some may say to be patient, but I will be moving soon and I thought the DVD would have arrived already.  What is the hold up, has anyone received the upgrade yet?

Thanks Chris - do you know what the shipping order is?  Based on when you purchased your system, or when you completed your order? Or other?

Not me either. I did exactly the same as you, morning of the 22nd.  I thought by reading the FAQ's this was sent out October 26th but no confirmation of that has been received.

brh1973,

Thank you for contacting the Dell Community Forum.  It's my understanding that upgrade DVDs are shipping, but there is a delay to high demand.  If you're concerned about the status of your upgrade, you may contact our customer care department at (800) 624-9897.  They are responsible for handling any issues with registration for and delivery of the Windows 7 upgrade.

todd_l,

I think they are going by order completion, but am not 100% positive on that.  I'm researching the issue now, and will post here when I have more information.

I would say no, don't call Dell - from what I've read, nobody has gotten anywhere with phone calls, and we're all in the same boat.  It appears (my opinion only) that Dell has not started processing orders yet, and nothing has been shipped (or even processed yet).  Hopefully soon.

brh1973,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

The Win7 disc started shipping yesterday Oct.26. I cannot say when you will receive the disk Hopefully soon. As a precaution you may want to call customer service at 1-800-624-9897 and give them your new address a day or 2 before you move and to see if the disk has shipped.

Final question I hope.  When is the order status updated?  Midnight, noon, random?

good question, since mine has been blank since the 22nd, I have no idea.  I check a few 2-3 times a day.

Wow, what a response. I was thinking I would get some info by the end of the day today but it seems this community is a lot more active than I though. Kudos Dell. Now if I can only get a laptop  (under $1700)  that can play GTA 4 with High graphics on a 1280 x 960 I would be happy.

I hope you have better luck then me. I've been trying to get my user ID / Password resetted since early September 2009 (2 months). So fare, 8 emails and two phone calls have resulted in no action. I know I have registered properly but the account doesn't let me login to update my free upgrade to Windows 7.

I'm at a lost on what to do next???

todd_l,

I was able to confirm that Windows 7 upgrades are being shipped based on when the order for the upgrade was received.  Currently we don't have a firm ETA on when those orders will ship, but Dell is working to expedite the process, and the situation should improve soon.

Regster - I am going to assume that you have already done this, but I have to ask anyway.  Have you clicked on the forgot password link and if so what happens?  I believe that this is the link https://win7.dell.com/PasswordRecovery.aspx.  Also what browser are you using and do you have any special settings or programs that may cause a problem?  I am just thinking that I have seen some sites where things may not work as expected in IE6, but will be just fine using Firefox.  I also do not know if some antispyware programs might cause a problem.

I am sure that you have already gone down this road, but it does not hurt to verify.

Good luck.
