XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

My XPS 8000 was ordered Nov 4th and went through several delays. I checked my email to see if there was any new word on the 26th and I saw that they had sent me an email on the 24th telling me I had 24 hours to respond or my order would be canceled. Obviously I was too late so they canceled it. I am glad actually. I will never do business with Dell again. I'll build my own comp this time and atleast it will have a good mobo and PSU and actually be upgradeable.

Update: My order for the XPS9000 was just delayed again and I decided to cancel my order - I just have no more confidence that Dell will ever deliver my PC and I cannot wait any longer. I ordered on 10/18 and it was delayed three times.  I tried to find out what particular part was delaying the order, but nobody at HP can tell me - so I asked them how they could even begin to give me an estimated date when they have no clue what parts are causing the delay.

I am done with Dell for good.

Zerostick, what state do you live in if you dont mind me asking? I placed an order for my studio xps 8000 on 10/21, it has been delayed 5 times to 12/10. I have almost the exact same order as you, minus .5TB and 4 gigs of ram..

I live in Bronx, New York.

I called Dell several times and I guess they shipped the order because the representative said he saw the number of times I called complaining about the delay.

I actually ordered an XPS 8000 on 11/22, with a scheduled delivery date of 12/9.  Still says "in production" on the status.  But I've been reading this and sister threads about ongoing issues with the XPS series. There's a known problem about the XPS series only recognizing half of the installed RAM that has only been resolved by SWAPPING OUT THE MOTHERBOARDS. These problems were logging around October /early November on another Dell thread. Could the shipping delays have something to do with changing suppliers or inventory mid-stream on motherboards, which would cause delays?  If this is the case, the wait might not be such a bad thing.

At any rate, WHENEVER you receive your XPS 8000/ 9000, check to see if it's registering all your installed RAM.

I ordered the XPS 8000 on 11/19 with the estimated ship date 12/29.  That sucks!

The estimated delivery date was 12/1 when my system was shipped...  It is now 12/3 and I have not recieved my order.  I checked with FedEx and they said my order has been hung up in customs.  It appears my XPS 9000 was built in Mexico and it has sat in customs for the past several days!  Hopefully (knock on wood) it should arrive tomorrow...

According to Dell's Cancellation Policy, they must adhere to the FTC's "Mail Order" rules which do give customers the right to cancel an order for a full refund if the item is not received when promised, or received in 30 days if no time frame is given.

See link below and inteprete the FTC's policies as you see fit.  There's a chance the customer service reps may not be aware that Dell has to follow these guidelines regarding cancellation.

That is what I dont get...

How is it you ordered before me and have a ship date of 12/29???  Is that because you have already been dalyed a few times???  I ordered 11/29 and have an estimated delivery date of 12/15.  I am highly skeptical that this will happen but some posters do report EARLY delivery.  If it is not ready on time Im gonna throw a fit, get my money back, and then go buy something else.

What amazes me about Dell is that any small business that treated there customers like this would immediatly fail.

Ordered on 11/15, delivery date currently 12/11 after one delay so far.

Kind of disappointed and wish DELL would just be honest about whatis causing the delays.

It's not strictly an i7 issue as I ordered the i5.  I think they're out of keyboards because if you go to set up a new system it says there is a delay on the keyboards.  Go figure.

It's okay to ship me the keyboard later.

No kidding. The standard keyboard they are shipping isn't that great anyway. I prefer my cheap Logitech (Read cheapest I could find, $15) that I've had for a couple years now.

In Summation:

Bad motherboards(only recognize half your memory--must replace all before shipping=delay)

Bad Graphics cards(Website now says mid range nvidia card, the 240s i think, will delay your order until 1/1/10)  Sorry Timmy Santa is delayed.  Maybe next xmas-maybe

No Keyboards-huh?  Seriously, keyboards?  Whats next?  Sorry we were out of styrofoam packing peanuts.   Your order is delayed for 2 more weeks.  Now were out of that clear film we put on everything so it wont get scrtached.  Dont call us well email you-at 3 a.m.-if we feel like it.

BB/staples/and walmart all have no Dell xps i7's available online. Advertised but "Sold OUT Online"  at least they are honest and won't let you order one until they can deliver it.  So it seems like Dell cant supply these to anyone.  Think of the money they are losing if they cant supply BB.  Not to mention BB must be a little upset about a company that cannot stock there shelves.

Knowing that I won't be banned from the dell community site even after saying they suk and is a horrible company in their own forums tells you how much this company really sucks.

If anyone does find out the real reasons, please post and let the rest of us know?  I desperately need a reliable computer for school, but now my 10/21 order has been pushed back to 1/6 and I'm at my wit's end.  That's a whole quarter of school lost.  I've sent in two emails now and never even received automated replies.
