windows xp programs wont start up
I have a laptop dell inspiron B130 with windows xp service pack 2..
It starts up just fine and when i try clicking on a program it has the loading icon like its about to startup but the programs never do.
however when i do run it in safe mode the programs work.

have you downloaded anything just before the problem started? If not one thing to try is to open a command prompt and type sfc /scannow, if any system files are damaged this should repair them. I would advise backing up the system before you do this.

Alright I did what you told me to do and a window popped up after a bit saying Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache..
Insert your Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM now. but the problem is I dont have a windows xp cd...

And I dont recall downloading anything that would make it do this, i havent download any programs lately but just like listen to music and whatnot so what do i do?

well if sfc /scannow came up with that it sounds like you have at least one corrupt system file. Is there any chance you could borrow an operating system disk from someone you know? AFAIK it needn't be a Dell cd as long as it is the same XP as you have.

hi, just checked in to see if you had replied. Something else to add: can you check on your hard drive to see if you have the I386 folder, if more than one see which is the largest. On my (oldish) inspiron when I needed to use sfc \scannow I discovered that it was already directed to my I386 folder so it just worked automatically. If you have this folder make a note of the file path to the folder. Then when using sfc and it says Insert CD, click ok and you'll have at least another dialogue box at some point where you are asked to type in the full file path of the I386 folder. I'm explaining badly but when you click ok to Insert CD you will see the messages that come up and click accordingly. HTH
