HD Compatability

Will a Western Digital WD3200KS HDD work in my new Dell Studio XPS 435.  It appears that the power connections are different and if so are there adapters?

Thanks

It should be fine, the WDC WD3200KS hard drive has both SATA power and data connections, that the Studio XPS 435 supports.

Hi Majsparky,

They're standard SATA cables. I believe you can pick one up at Wal-Mart for about $8. Seriously, they have them.

Thanks for the quick response shesagordie;

I traced the power cables that go to Optical Drives(2) and the HDD (3).  What confused me is that Dell does not supply the data connection cables for any extra Optical drives or HDD's.  I found the five SATA Ports on the motherboard but there are only 2 data cables coming off the 5 port connections.  I suspect the I can only get the needed data cables from Dell.

Again, thanks for your help.

You are welcome.

Dell only provides SATA data cables, for the drives that are factory installed.

Additional SATA data cables can be purchased from www.newegg.com ,starting at $3.00

Thanks for the info.  I went to Wal-Mart, unfortunately they did not have them.  I tried Best Buy, however, they were priced at $19.99 each.  Tried Target no luck.  Went on line and got two cables for 3.99 each.  With shipping at 7.99, it brought the total price to the same as you quoted from Wal-mart.  I have since received the cables and they are working just fine.

Thanks again.  Without your pricing guidance I may have spent $40+ for the two cables.
