Dvd/cd rom driver missing or corrupted

I'm running windows 7 home premium on a dell inspiron 580 desktop.  Actually I'm getting this same prob on my laptop, as well.

Problems with the CD-ROM, the driver is missing or corrupted (code 39)

No idea what's causing it but must be some type of conflict from something i'm installing on my computer.  Anyone have any ideas ?  or how to fix it ?  thanks !

Hi Bryan,

Perhaps you're unfamiliar with the new MS Support pages. When you click either XP or Vista articles, you'll get a redirect to the appropriate page for your version. There's a "Fix it" button you can use to fix this.
