Vostro 200 mini - New Bios, which processor?

Hi,

This is reposted here because I mistakenly posted it to the wrong forum before (Desktop Video).

I've flashed my vostro 200 mini with the latest BIOS to get support for some new Intel processors, but as hard as I search I can not find a list of what processors are supported.

Currently I have the E4400 in a 0CU409 MB (Foxcon?).

Can anyone tell me what processors are supported now that the BIOS has be updated?

Thanks.

Hey, does that mean that even if we have the old motherboard, with the new BIOS (which I updated just 10 mins ago), I will be able to use a Q9550?  Because previously, Dell claimed that only Dual Core processor worked, and when I installed a Q9550, the computer wouldn't boot up.  That was on bios 1.0.15.

I've been always concerned about it, Is there an rignt answer for the problem? I have the issue which is similar to what you have faced.

Dell used two motherboard versions in their Vostro 200 and Inspiron 530 desktops.

Assuming that you have a Vostro 200MT, if you have the FoxConn G33m02 [Dell P/N ORY007] motherboard and 300w PSU installed, then Core 2 Quad processors are not supported.

To use Core 2 Quad processors, a 0FM586 [FoxConn G33m03]  motherboard and a 350w power supply, is required.

Unless the computer was ordered from with a Core 2 Quad, then the motherboard that's installed will be the FoxConn G33m02 [Dell P/N ORY007].

Reading the thread HERE may also, help.

Well, the new BIOS (Version 1.0.16) will only support the Quad Core processor IF you have the G33M03 motherboard.  Otherwise, you will need to buy a G33M03 motherboard, use a Core 2 Duo processor, flash the BIOS to the newest version, then the Q9550 will work.  The G33M02 only supports Dual core processors because it doesn't have enough voltage regulators to support Quad core processors.  If you don't know which motherboard you have, you can open your case and look on the motherboard and you'll be able to see which one you have (the product number is printed in white on the motherboard).  You can find a G33M03 here:

http://www.discountelectronics.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=14482

As far as I know, this is the ONLY place to buy a G33M03 that is guaranteed to work and has a warranty.

Also, don't forget to upgrade your power supply to AT LEAST a 350 Watt.  I suggest getting higher like a 550 Watt or more.
