Dell XPS M1330 - WWAN Card 5540 (Mobile Broadband)

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop model, and am considering whether to purchase and install a WWAN mini-card / module into my laptop.

I have searched through various forums and noticed many M1330 users who have WWAN cards installed have the Dell Wireless 5520 or 5530 WWAN cards installed. I've searched the mobile broadband cards available for purchase on Dell site and noticed only the 5540 WWAN card <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>available for purchase (latest version) but couldn't find the previous (5520/5530) on the Dell products site. Also, my particular Dell XPS M1330 model was not listed as being compatible with the new 5540 WWAN card.

My questions below:

  1. I've noticed discussions of Dell BIOS lock-outs on cards/modules which are not whitelisted for system acceptance. My current BIOS version is A15, will module 5540 be recognised and accepted by the BIOS?
  2. Have any M1330 users installed this particular module and experienced any issues?

My system specs below:

  • Model: Dell XPS M1330
  • RAM: 4GB
  • CPU: 2.5GHz
  • Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8400M 128mb video ram
  • OS: Windows 7 x64
  • BIOS version: A15

Thanks in advance.
