Hi again! I have another question I have a ati 5770 in a Dell Studio XPS 81000 and would like to switch to a Nividia 460 is this possible?

I know the power supply is limited 350w but since this card is in the newer Xps 8100 I was curious about putting one in my pc. Are voltage differences to much or is this a project I would just have to try and find out that way. Thanks for any info/help!

Did your 5770 come with the 8100?  If so, it was most like modified by Dell to consume less power and work better in your system than a retail version.  Even the retail 5770 uses less power than the GTX 460 which is a level up and higher performance card.  There are different versions of the GTX 460 with varying power consumptions and they are popular because they overclock very well which in turn would consume more power.  I would not put the GTX 460 on a 350 watt power supply if you are going to put it under regular stress.

Yes it did come with but Dell only modified the Nvidia 260 my clocks are 850/1200 and my benchmarks match reference card. I was curious about the 460 because it uses a little more than 20w at peak more than my card and I was hoping someone had already done it for feedback, and they now offer the 460 with my system without changing the power supply the driver is in my list of updates for the 8100 at Dell.com. Anyway your probaly right the psu is weak and 20w might cause issue. What psu upgrade would be compatible maybe Antec 650w ATX 80 plus what would you recommend? Thanks for info/help!

The manufacturer only recommends a 450 watt power supply.  Antec is a good brand.  You have the Earthwatts and the TruePower units.  The 650W TruePower at $100 is just too much money in my opinion so the Earthwatts is more reasonable.  This Corsair 650W HERE has a good rebate on it right now and is the one I use.  I have also been recommending this one HERE for the price.

The Antec EarthWatts 650 just went on sale for only $57.99 and free shipping at Newegg and also the Corsair 550W for $59.99.  Both are good deals with the promo codes. This is for 48 hours only starting today if you're still looking.
